Sixteen million tourists fly into Thailand each year, and despite the influx of visitors, this country’s cultural integrity remains relatively intact. From the idyllic islands to the bustling cities, there are 77 provinces housing 63 million people across mountains – so if you’re thinking about visiting, why not clue up on a few of these interesting facts about Thailand:
1. Thailand has the longest capital city name, Bangkok, which its full ceremonial name is Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit.
2. Unusual festivals: Monkey Buffet, held in front of the temple in Lopburi province. More than 600 monkeys are invited to feast on over two tonnes of grilled sausage, fresh fruit, ice cream and other treats. The locals see it as a thank you to the monkeys which inhabit the village and bring thousands of tourists there each year.
3. It has 1,430 islands, with a very nice beach and clear blue sea.
4. Koh Phangan is Thailand’s party island – it is famous for its Full Moon Parties, but also hosts Half Moon and Black Moon versions. (actually they have tried to held party everyday)
5. Thailand is one of the Buddhism cities, with almost 30,000 temples nationwide. On the other hand, this country is also the dream destination for sexual tourism.
